Description

The Course will combine lectures, large and small group discussions and practical sessions to create a warm, friendly and interactive atmosphere to allow all the participants to learn as much as possible in the 3 days. The faculty will always be available to answer questions and expand on discussion topics.

Learning objectives
Understand the principles of assessment, investigation and management of acute spinal problems. These principles will be applied for the specific pathologies in subsequent sessions
To be able to recognize, assess and safely manage cervical and thoracolumbar spine fractures
Understand the principles of managing spinal tumours and infections
Understand the principles of assessment, investigation and management of degenerative spinal problems. These principles will be applied for the specific pathologies in subsequent sessions
To understand the management strategies for back and radicular pain and the success rates and risks of surgery. To have a working knowledge of the basic surgical anatomy and techniques for performing a discectomy or decompression
Objectives
Understand neurological, bony and surgical anatomy of the spine related to approaches and pathology
Appreciate the interaction between biology and biomechanics in spinal reconstruction
Have a good appreciation of establishing a diagnosis from history and examination, organizing appropriate investigations and generating a sensible management plan for the common spinal conditions
Cover the topics required for the FRCS exit examination

This course is made up of 2 parts - with each course lasting for a day and a half. The first course in on the Injured Spine and begins on Wednesday 17 at 09:00am, and the second course is on the Degenerative spine, which begins at 13:30 on Thursday afternoon and runs until Friday 19 at 17:00.

The fee to attend each part is £275, however if you would like to attend both parts there is an additional this will be £535.
